What Does a School Counselor Do?
About 50% of my time is spent in classrooms, teaching biweekly counseling lessons to help students develop self-regulation and stress management strategies, build confidence and increase motivation to achieve, and develop positive character traits and social skills. In addition to regular counseling lessons, teachers can request a restorative mini-lesson if there is a specific conflict, behavior, or incident that needs to be addressed with students.
I am also the contact person for the RTI process and additional referrals for Special Education including Speech, Dyslexia Services, and Section 504 accommodations.

Lena Pope Home
Lena Pope Counseling is dedicated to meeting the mental health and substance use treatment needs of families in Fort Worth and surrounding areas. Counseling services are provided by licensed therapists with Master’s Degrees to children, adolescents, and families for various issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, and disruptive behavior.

Tarrant County Human Services
Tarrant County Department of Human Services (TCDHS) is the County's temporary financial assistance program. The mission of TCDHS is to provide social services and economic assistance to individuals and families. Financial assistance is provided to eligible households for rent, mortgage, utilities, food & hygiene items, and transportation on a limited basis.

Meet Our Counselor
My name is Kyle Rivera and I am the counselor at Dolores Huerta Elementary. This is my 20th year in education and my 12th year as a Professional School Counselor. I am dedicated to developing and implementing a comprehensive counseling program that strives to remove the social and emotional roadblocks that negatively impact student acheivement.
I graduated from TCU in 2000 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and I taught English at the American School of Puebla in Puebla, Mexico for seven years. The American School is an International Baccalaureate school where I had the opportunity to work with students, parents, and educators from all over the world. During my time in Mexico, I also earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at the Universidad de las Americas Puebla and did volunteer work for Juconi, a non-profit organization dedicated to designing and implementing family and social services for children living or working on the street.
My husband and I moved back to Fort Worth in 2007, and I began teaching third grade at Dolores Huerta Elementary. In 2008, I took over the Counseling position at Dolores Huerta because I wanted to help students develop strong character, learn coping skills, and build the confidence they needed to be successful in the classroom and in their community.
